Travel Doctor 365

Our story begins in an art shop in the city of Fortaleza, Brazil. This is a beautiful seaside city in Northeast Brazil. It was my first time in Brazil, and I happened to walk into this art shop while exploring the city. I loved this really awesome painting on the wall, and I mistakenly assumed, as many people often do, that Spanish is so similar to Portuguese that everybody can communicate using both languages. I didn't realize How Wrong I was in thinking that! At the time, I didn't speak Brazilian Portuguese at all, but I was bilingual, fluent in English and in Spanish. I tried to communicate with all of the attendants in the art shop in Spanish and in English, but I got Nowhere. I left frustrated, because I couldn't ask the art shop attendants the simplest questions, such as how much does that painting cost, and how will you ship it to the US? As a doctor, I thought, WOW, what if I or others get sick or have a serious medical emergency in a country where we don't speak the language? The answer is Simple. You are very vulnerable to medical errors due to language barriers, and you lose valuable and often critical time attempting to communicate. That's when I thought of beginning this product. The aim is simple. Let's Save Lives!

I found the “Global Health Passport” very comforting to have with me on my overseas trip with my six year old daughter. I do not speak Spanish and this was a huge concern since my daughter is a cardiac patient. I have always carried reports from local doctors with me in case of an emergency while at home, but I feared that if there was an emergency while on our trip the doctors would not understand her history. The “Global Health Passport” helped to ease that fear knowing that if there was an emergency I could hand them the book and they would know where to start and how to treat my daughter.
